Small Axe 1.5 pounds
Small Axe 1.5 pounds
I am happy to offer a hand-forged carving axe made in Bakersville, NC. The axes, similar to my other products, are made to order one at a time. I can usually begin work immediately after your order is placed, so if you are looking for a professionally forged and finish carving axe, look no further. I have been forging axes for almost a decade and have trained with a number of masters in both woodworking and blacksmithing, and I am hopeful that my carving axes are a synthesis of both crafts.
The axes in this particular listing are forged from 4140 tool steel. The axe head weighs approximately 1.5 pounds and the handle can add up to 8 ounces. Both the cutting edge and back pole of the axe are hardened to allow for safely striking and using the axe as a splitting implement. These axes have been in the design process for years, and I believe the care and consideration that has gone into the design shows in the cleanliness of work. The width of the blade is upset and forged to a total width of 5". The extra-wide edge gives the user plenty of space to choke up and on the tool and achieve precise delicate cuts.
My carving axes come standard with a Kentucky Hickory handle measuring 18" long.
I use these same tools almost daily in my own work, and I have found that a pristine forged finish allows for greater ease of use. I could not confidently present my work to the market if I did not feel as if the product was something I would not personally buy.
However, if you are looking for something a little different or a design that I do not currently offer, do not fear! I am always happy to custom forge tools to your exact specifications. Most craftspeople know what works for them, and my tools mirror that logic, but what works for me while not for you, so let me know what you may have in mind and we can get the forging process started.
