Hori Hori

I forge these gardening knives one at a time in the studio in Bakersville, North Carolina. I use recycled 5160 tool steel and work the blocks into thin billets which are then shaped into a hori hori. The design is derived from the numerous types of hori hori I have used throughout my years of gardening both on my own home and farms across the country, and so I am proud to offer a product designed by gardeners for gardeners.

The steel is forged to just under 1/8” thick, so while it may be thinner than commercially available counterparts, the forged nature of the 5160 tool steel makes my pieces just as tough if not stronger. From knife tip to handle, the piece measures at 12” which may be useful to some in the garden when establishing rows. The handle scales are sourced from local walnut trees and the pins are silicon bronze.

If you are interested in this product but looking for something a little different, let me know, as I am always happy to accommodate custom designs.
